When my daughters were growing up, I wanted to decorated their room with something that we all loved. We had lime green carpet that was difficult to match. One day I was walking in a department store and saw this green and pink bed set. I loved it. Hoped my girls would. They did. Over the years, I kept everything. When I was deciding how to decorate the guest bedroom, I chose to use the girl’s set. The problem was the girls had twin beds, and we now had a queen bed. The nice thing was the twin comforter fit perfectly on top of the queen bed. So I took the bed-skirt and sewed it to the comforter. It makes a perfect bedspread. I then took the twin sheets and made curtains.
The oak chest of drawers that is in the picture was picked up from someone’s garbage. Hubby fixed a few things, and it turned out perfect. Most of our furniture is from our parents, thrift stores, garage sales, or a roadside rescue.

She was getting older, and I thought that she might want to sleep in the toy room, instead of the crib. The crib was tucked in a closet, surrounded with fun little girl things. I ask her where she wants to sleep, she says, “I want to sleep in my room.” She is now 13 years old, and the other week when she was here, I asked her where she wants to sleep.Guess where she slept? No, she didn’t sleep in the crib. It is no longer there. Oh, the joy to know that I created a home that my grandchildren claim as theirs.
Having six granddaughter’s, I decided to dedicate this bedroom to them. When our first granddaughter was a year old, I asked my daughter to make sure they took a picture of her in pink. Good thing we took it then because now, her least favorite color is pink. Over the years as each granddaughter was born, I made sure I had a picture of them in pink. There are six pictures in this bedroom, one for each of my precious granddaughters.
One day I told my daughters that I love my grandchildren more than they love their children. They said, “What? No way!” I tried to explain to them, but they will not understand until they have grandchildren of their own. When I had my children I had a love for them that was very precious. When our first daughter was born, I was overtaken with love for her. We had her sleeping in our bedroom and Hubby decided that a month was long enough. She was moved to her own bedroom. I cried. I couldn’t sleep. I eventually got over it, but I didn’t like it. I loved being a mother. I loved having my babies close. So then comes our grandchildren. I fell in love all over again. The same wonderful feeling I had for my newborn baby came back. But there is more, the best part. I didn’t have all the responsibilities. You love them, spoil them and give them back. The love is beyond wonderful. Okay, I might not love my grandchildren more than they love their own children, but it feels like it.
Each of my granddaughters is special, but sometimes there is one that stands out even more. One that brands an imprint on your heart forever. She makes it swell up with so much love and concern, that it feels like it will break. Yep! Then that teeny tiny precious one grows up with a special style all her own. Your heart overflows, and you smile when you find out she hand signs for Nana and Papa’s farm. Quite often. 🙂
